The Member of Parliament, Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, has been elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), securing a strong mandate from lawmakers across the continent.
The election took place during an ongoing session of the Parliament, where she won decisively with 131 votes, defeating her opponent who polled 51 votes. The result reflects widespread confidence in her leadership among representatives of the African Union’s 55 member states.
Her election to one of the top leadership positions of the PAP marks a notable moment for Ghana and highlights growing calls for increased youth and female representation within continental governance structures.
Rawlings has been actively engaged in parliamentary work focusing on health equity, youth development, and strengthening democratic institutions across Africa.
Following the announcement, colleagues applauded her victory, with the significant margin seen as a clear endorsement of her vision and leadership as the Parliament continues to promote legal harmonisation, human rights, and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Pan African Parliament serves as the legislative arm of the African Union, representing the voices of African citizens and supporting efforts toward deeper continental integration.
