The number of Ghanaians killed in the February 14 jihadist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, has risen to eight, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.
Seven members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association were initially reported dead. A fourth injured victim, who had been receiving treatment for severe injuries, has since passed away.
President John Dramani Mahama expressed condolences to the bereaved families and condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless act of terror. Ghana also conveyed solidarity with the Government and people of Burkina Faso.
On the President’s instructions, the Ghana Air Force is airlifting the injured victims back home for further medical care. Embassy officials in Burkina Faso are coordinating assistance, with support from Burkinabe authorities.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has issued new travel guidelines, urging Ghanaians travelling to high-risk areas within the sub-region to seek prior guidance from Ghana’s embassies and to exercise caution.
