Several communities within the Greater Kumasi areas have been plunged into darkness after suspected thieves launched an attack on high-tension infrastructure installed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The perpetrators reportedly removed bolts and nuts from the bases of one of the towers, resulting in the collapse of eight others along the vital transmission line stretching from Anwomaso BSP to Akyawkrom Substation in Ejisu.
The repercussions of this unfortunate incident have been felt far and wide, with a widespread power outage affecting numerous areas dependent on this critical electrical network. Among the hardest-hit communities are Bekwai, Awiankwanta, Kumawu, Antoakrom, Manso Nkwanta, Jacobu Samfo-Aduam, Ejisu, Onwe, Besease, Asotwe, Abankro, Baworo, and their surrounding environs.
Asaase News is learning that the ECG officials are currently investigating the incident, working tirelessly to restore power to the affected areas and apprehend those responsible for this reprehensible act of vandalism.
An official complaint has been reported to the Ghana Police Service for further action.
