Power supply has been temporarily shut down in parts of Accra following precautionary safety measures implemented by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in response to adverse weather conditions affecting the national electricity distribution network.
According to a joint statement issued by the two utility providers on Monday (29 June), the decision forms part of efforts to protect lives, property, and critical electricity infrastructure in areas where safety risks have been identified.
The companies explained that the measure is necessary to prevent accidents and further damage, particularly in locations where flooding and weather-related hazards have affected electrical installations.
GRIDCo and ECG have urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution during the period and to immediately report any fallen electricity poles, exposed or downed power lines, flooded electrical installations, or other electricity-related hazards to the nearest ECG office or through official customer service channels.
They noted that prompt reporting will enable rapid response teams to address faults and enhance public safety.
