The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas), Judith Adjobah Blay, has promoted Ghana’s investment potential in the natural gas sector at the Global Energy Show in Calgary, Canada.
Speaking at the international energy conference, Ms. Blay highlighted Ghana Gas’ role in supporting energy security, economic growth, and regional energy integration, while inviting investors to participate in the company’s upcoming expansion projects.
She stated that Ghana Gas supplies about 84 per cent of the fuel used by Ghana’s thermal power plants, which generate roughly 60 per cent of the country’s electricity. According to her, this contributes to annual fuel cost savings of approximately US$1.3 billion, with an additional US$60 million saved through the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Ms. Blay also outlined Ghana Gas’ collaboration with the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAGP), which enables bidirectional gas transmission and supports regional gas trade. She noted that the company is also a stakeholder in the proposed African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project linking Nigeria, Morocco, and several African countries, including Ghana.
The Ghana Gas CEO identified key investment opportunities, including a second Gas Processing Plant (GPP II), a 300-kilometre onshore gas transmission pipeline, and the Pentane Monetization Project aimed at reducing hydrocarbon flaring through stabilization technology.
She said Ghana remains an attractive investment destination due to its stable legal and regulatory environment, strong protection of property rights, and strategic location within the West African energy market.
