President John Mahama is expected to launch the Blue Water Initiative, a transformative effort aimed at restoring and protecting Ghana’s environment while rehabilitating polluted water bodies.
As part of this initiative, the government will also roll out the River Guards training programme at the Ezinlibo Naval Base in the Western Region.
The first cohort of these dedicated individuals will be trained to serve as vigilant protectors of Ghana’s rivers, shielding them from the harmful effects of illegal mining and other environmental hazards.
Inspired by the legacy of the young pioneers of old, the River Guards will play a critical role in preserving the nation’s water resources, ensuring that future generations have access to clean and sustainable water sources.
The Blue Water Initiative is designed to rejuvenate Ghana’s water bodies that have been severely impacted by illegal mining and environmental degradation.
In collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ghana Water Company and the Water Resources Commission, the initiative aims to clean, protect, and maintain the country’s vital water resources, ensuring their long-term availability for all communities.
