GRIDCo’s engineering and technical teams have been praised for their swift response in restoring power following the recent fire outbreak at the Akosombo substation.
The company commended the teams for working around the clock under difficult conditions to successfully restore 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity transmission from the Akosombo Generation Station, helping to stabilise the ազգային grid.
The fire, which occurred on April 23, disrupted power generation and transmission, leading to outages in several parts of the country.
Energy Minister John Jinapor last week confirmed that full power has been restored nationwide, with all generation units back in service.
He attributed the successful recovery to the coordinated efforts of GRIDCo, the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and other stakeholders.
GRIDCo described the restoration as a testament to the dedication, expertise, and resilience of its personnel, highlighting the role of local engineers in responding effectively to a major system disruption.
