The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has initiated discussions with a team from a hospital in Kolkata, India to explore the supply of a robotic surgical system to the Hospital.
The team comprises doctors who will not only facilitate the supply of the system but will also support the training of Korle Bu staff in its use and operation.
The discussions follow an announcement by the Chief Executive, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, on Tuesday, September 2, 2026 during the launch of this year’s Prostate Cancer Awareness month. He revealed that Management intends to procure a robotic surgical system for the Hospital.
Dr Adam is firmly convinced that robotic surgery represents an important part of the future of surgical care and Korle Bu must keep pace with advancements in modern medicine across the world.
Also discussed were ways to support and strengthen the Hospital’s renal and liver transplantation programmes. The teams further explored the supply of breastmilk fortifiers and enhanced nutritional milk supplements for premature babies.
Speaking at the launch of the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the Chief Executive noted that some Ghanaians travel abroad to undergo robotic surgery because the service is currently unavailable in the country.
He therefore urged staff of the Hospital to embrace the proposed introduction of robotic surgery and support efforts to position Korle Bu at the forefront of advanced surgical care in Ghana.
