A fire outbreak involving a transformer at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo)’s Mallam Substation disrupted electricity supply to parts of Accra on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
GRIDCo said in a statement issued in Tema that the incident occurred at about 2:36 a.m. following a fault at the substation.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the fire, according to GRIDCo.
The company said power supply had been restored to parts of the affected areas, while efforts were continuing to restore electricity to the remaining areas.
GRIDCo said its engineers were investigating the cause of the fire and that steps had been initiated to replace the affected transformer as soon as possible.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked affected customers and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
