The Ghana Police Service has revealed that preliminary investigations into an alleged unauthorised withdrawal of GH₵400,000 from a mobile money account are linked to a suspected gold robbery and fraud scheme.
The probe, being conducted by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, centres on transactions involving a Kumasi-based mobile money merchant, Derrick Okyere Dapaah, also known as “Pablo.”
According to the Police, initial findings indicate that the GH₵400,000 forms part of proceeds from a gold-related fraud and robbery incident reported in December 2025.
The complainant, Francis Ayaaba of Ejisu, told investigators that he was lured to a residence at Ntoaso near Nsawam under the pretext of purchasing gold. He reportedly paid GH₵500,000 in cash and transferred an additional GH₵400,000 via mobile money for the transaction. Shortly after making the payment, armed men allegedly stormed the location and robbed him of the gold.
Preliminary investigations traced the GH₵400,000 mobile money transfer to accounts linked to Derrick Okyere Dapaah. Police say the funds were subsequently moved across two additional accounts associated with him.
The money was later withdrawn by a suspect identified as Abudu Dauda, who reportedly used a Ghana Card bearing the name Isagali Promise. He is said to have told investigators that he conducted the withdrawal on behalf of another suspect, Alhaji Ibrahim.
Based on these initial findings, Police secured court orders to freeze the mobile numbers involved, reverse the transaction, and retrieve the funds as exhibits pending the outcome of the case.
Further police action has led to the arrest of Abudu Dauda, Prince Ofori, and William Nene Sakitey Osabotey, a goldsmith and owner of the premises where the transaction took place. Derrick Okyere Dapaah has also been arrested and charged with abetment of crime.
All four suspects have been arraigned before court and granted bail. They are expected to reappear on April 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend two other suspects, identified as Alex and Alhaji Ibrahim, who remain at large as investigations continue.
