Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson has challenged Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited to move beyond its recovery phase and significantly increase production, efficiency and value creation following the restart of its processing plant after about nine months.
Mr Nelson said the company’s return to operations marked an important step, but stressed that management must now build on the progress by improving production, diversifying operations and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the company.
He made the remarks after a working visit to Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, where he assessed efforts to restore operations and critical infrastructure.

The Minister commended management and staff for sustaining the company through a difficult period, noting that the processing plant was now back in operation while work on the tailings dam and other critical infrastructure was progressing.
“With Ghana placing renewed emphasis on maximising value from our gold resources, Sankofa has an important role to play,” Mr Nelson said.
He said the company’s immediate focus should be on keeping the plant operational, increasing production, improving efficiency and creating greater value for employees, host communities and the Ghanaian economy.

“The expectation is clear: keep the plant running, keep improving, produce more, create greater value for employees and communities, and contribute more meaningfully to Ghana’s economy,” he said.
Mr Nelson said the progress made so far provided reason for optimism, but stressed that Sankofa’s objective should not simply be to recover from its recent difficulties.
“Sankofa must not only recover; it must emerge stronger, more sustainable and positioned to tell an even better story of Ghanaian gold,” he said.
