Kevin Okyere, Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Exploration and Production Limited, has reportedly been detained by police in Dubai in connection with an ongoing dispute over alleged investor fraud.
The claim, first shared by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor on 1 November 2025, has not yet been officially confirmed by officials of Springfield when ghextractives.com reached out for comment.
The reported detention follows a petition filed in May 2025 by Swiss-based Petraco Oil Company SA to Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), calling for a criminal investigation into what it described as a “systematic and orchestrated economic crime” involving Springfield and its affiliate, GMP Energy Limited.
The petition alleged that the companies and their executives — including Okyere, Geena Malkani Punjabi, and Emmanuel Ansah Bernasko — were involved in fraudulent petroleum product transactions and the misuse of a US$50 million loan facility.
According to Petraco, Springfield misrepresented a planned oil field unitisation project with Eni Ghana to obtain the loan and subsequently diverted the funds for other purposes.
Springfield has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as “false, baseless, and misleading.” The company insists that the matter is purely commercial and currently the subject of arbitration proceedings in Dubai and London.
