Firefighters from the Konongo-Odumase Fire Command on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, responded to a fuel tanker accident at Breku Forest, off the Kumasi–Accra Highway near the Pra River, preventing a potential fire outbreak.
The incident occurred at about 9:12 a.m. and involved a DAF XF diesel tanker with registration number BF 6646 E2-03, which was transporting 45,000 litres of fuel. The tanker sustained partial damage to its bulk, leading to a spill of approximately 11,000 litres of diesel.
Two persons sustained minor injuries in the accident and were transported to a hospital for treatment. No fatalities were recorded.
A team of firefighters led by Assistant Station Officer Owusu-Ansah quickly moved to the scene and applied water and foam to cool the tanker. The spilled diesel was also blanketed to minimise the risk of ignition.
The prompt response helped salvage about 34,000 litres of fuel and prevented what could have been a major fire incident along the busy highway.
Authorities say the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Emergency responders, together with other supporting agencies, also worked to tow the damaged tanker and restore the free flow of traffic in the area.
