A high-level delegation from Zambia has visited the Tarkwa Goldfields Mine in Ghana’s Western Region as part of a benchmarking mission to learn from Ghana’s mining operations and best practices.
The visit, which formed part of a broader engagement with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and its related agencies, sought to expose the Zambian team to Ghana’s mining governance structures, regulatory framework, and environmental management strategies within the large-scale mining sector.
Officials of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, operators of the Tarkwa Mine, took the delegation through the mine’s operational processes, sustainability initiatives, and community development programmes that have supported livelihoods and promoted responsible mining in the host communities.

The Zambian delegation commended Ghana’s mining model, describing it as an example of effective collaboration between government, investors, and local communities.

The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Zambia in the extractive sector, especially in the areas of policy exchange, local content promotion, and sustainable resource management.
