12 dead from drowning at Apam in the Central Region

At least  twelve people have been confirmed dead at Apam in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

The 12 were among some boys and girls who went to the beach to play but unfortunately got drowned in the sea on Sunday evening.

The bodies of the deceased have since been retrieved by a search party including the police in the area.

This was after a two residents namely Kwame Akono , 43 ,and Justice Mensah, 47, had reported to the police about their missing nephew who was said to have been carried away by the sea waves while playing football with his friends at the beach side.

The nephew who was part of those who got drowned was however not found alive as he had perished with 11 others.

However , two of the boys namely Simon Dadzie ,15, and Godfred Apprentsie , 14, were rescued by the search team and are receiving treatment at the St. Luke Catholic Hospital at Apam.

The deceased whose age range between 14 and 17 including 2 females have also had their bodies deposited at the St. Luke Catholic Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The police in the area have however begun investigation into the matter.
