The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rescued 26 passengers following a multi-vehicle accident near the Kintampo Waterfalls in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region.
According to the GNFS, the Service received a distress call at 3:59pm on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, reporting a vehicular accident in the area.
A rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADOII) Rhinehold Appiah Gyamfi, with RFM Takyi Kodom as the driver, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival at 5:24pm, the crew observed multiple vehicular collisions involving several vehicles. Among them was a Mercedes Sprinter bus, which had rammed into parked vehicles and subsequently caught fire.
Preliminary information indicates that the accident occurred while a towing vehicle was attempting to retrieve a Kia Bongo truck that had fallen into a pit three days earlier. The operation reportedly led to congestion and contributed to the chain collision.
Twenty-six passengers were trapped in the vehicles at the scene but were successfully rescued by the GNFS personnel. Three individuals sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for medical treatment.
The GNFS said its officers worked swiftly to rescue victims, control the fire, and secure the area to prevent further casualties.
The Service has reiterated its call for road users to exercise caution, particularly around accident scenes and during towing operations, and continues to educate the public on road safety, fire prevention, and emergency response.
