Three people have died while 17 others were rescued following a fatal road accident at Woadze near Kpeve along the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said personnel from the Peki Fire Station responded to a distress call at about 9:58 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, after a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C was involved in the crash.
According to the GNFS, the vehicle was travelling from Abotuase in the Volta Region to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region with 20 passengers on board, comprising 11 males, five females, and four children.
The Service said the rescue team managed to extricate 13 adults and four children who were trapped in the severely damaged vehicle.
However, three adults — two men and one woman — were confirmed dead at the scene.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service at the Kpando Divisional Command, together with officers from the Ghana Ambulance Service from Afadjato and Juapong, transported the injured and the bodies of the deceased to the Kpando Government Hospital and the Peki Government Hospital for treatment, preservation, and further investigations.
The cause of the accident is yet to be established and remains under investigation.
