The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has released a comprehensive list of 50 unrecognised tertiary institutions allegedly operating in the country without proper accreditation or authorization.
In a statement dated October 20, 2025, GTEC cautioned the general public, particularly prospective students, parents, and employers, to treat the matter with utmost seriousness when dealing with such institutions.
According to the Commission, these universities, colleges, and seminaries — both local and foreign — have failed to meet accreditation and quality assurance standards required under Ghana’s tertiary education regulations.
“We hope you treat this caution with the seriousness that it deserves in your dealings with them,” the Commission stated in the circular signed from its Accra office.
The list, which includes institutions from the USA, UK, India, Ghana, and several other countries, features names such as:
-
Atlantic International University (USA)
-
Breyer State Theology University (USA)
-
Faith University Seminary (Ghana)
-
Universidad Azteca (Mexico)
-
Selinus University of Sciences and Literature (Italy)
-
Doxa Open University (Ghana)
-
Crown University International Chartered (USA)
-
Vision International University (USA)
-
Kazian School of Management (India)
-
East Bridge University Paris (France)
The Commission emphasized that these institutions have not been recognized due to “various accreditation and quality assurance breaches.”
GTEC’s publication also forms part of a broader effort to sanitize Ghana’s higher education space, which has seen an influx of unaccredited foreign-linked institutions marketing dubious degree programs online and through local agents.
The Commission urged all prospective students to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling, by visiting GTEC’s website — www.gtec.edu.gh
