The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has raised concerns over inconsistencies in Ghana’s petroleum supply data for the first half of 2025.
According to CEO Dr Riverson Oppong, total petroleum supply rose by 17.65% between January and June, led by a 4,500% surge in fuel oil consumption — mainly from power generation.
He also noted unusually high demand increases in the Upper East and Upper West regions, suggesting potential data irregularities, and flagged “suspiciously high” volumes reported by some oil marketing companies.
COMAC has written to affected companies and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for clarification, while urging reforms to strengthen transparency in Ghana’s downstream sector.“
We cannot continue to allow these irregularities to persist. The industry must reset,” Dr. Oppong stated.
