Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, has announced her upcoming enstoolment as Nana Ama Kum I, Mpuntu Hemaa of the Abura Traditional Area.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Abakrampa Durbar Grounds, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Prof. Klutse described the new role as a “sacred responsibility” that calls for service, development, and the upliftment of her people.
A distinguished physicist and climate scientist, Prof. Klutse holds a BSc from the University of Cape Coast and a PhD from the University of Cape Town, with expertise in climate science, physics, and policy.
She has contributed significantly to climate research, including serving as Vice-Chair of Working Group I of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and leading numerous studies on climate modelling and policy.
Since January 2025, she has served as the Acting CEO of the EPA, previously holding positions as Head of the Department of Physics at the University of Ghana and Senior Research Scientist at the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute. She is also a strong advocate for women in STEM and climate action in Africa.
Prof. Klutse’s academic work focuses on the intersection of physics, policy, and politics to address climate change, highlighting the urgent need for mitigation and adaptation strategies in the face of human-induced environmental challenges.
Beyond her professional and academic accomplishments, Prof. Klutse is an active member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and contributes to political, environmental, and educational initiatives in Ghana. She is married to Dr. Charles Kofi Klutse, and they have three children.
