The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully responded to a fuel tanker accident at Anyinam Railway Station in the Eastern Region involving a fuel tanker carrying 45,000 litres of petrol.
According to the GNFS, the Anyinam Fire Station received a distress call at about 2:35am on Sunday, May 24, 2026, and immediately dispatched a seven-member rescue team led by Station Officer II Kubetew Alfred.
The team arrived at the scene within minutes and found the tanker, with registration number BF-9373-03, overturned in a muddy ditch.
Fire officers conducted a rapid assessment to check for fuel spillage, possible fire outbreaks and casualties. Cooling operations were also carried out to prevent ignition and reduce the risk of an explosion.
The driver, who was transporting fuel from Tema to Burkina Faso, sustained minor injuries after reportedly losing control of the vehicle.
GNFS said rescue and standby operations continued on May 25 and 26 under the supervision of the District Fire Commander, DOI Michael George Korda, until arrangements were made to tow the tanker from the scene.
The tanker reportedly sustained partial damage estimated at GH¢70,000, while the salvaged fuel was valued at GH¢400,000.
