A commercial fire broke out at the Tema Industrial Area in the early hours of Monday, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The fire, which started at approximately 12:40 a.m. (0040hrs), involved a warehouse and factory used for the production and storage of takeaway containers and rubber products.
According to the GNFS, four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones Fire Stations were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
The service confirmed that while battling the fire, some firefighters sustained injuries, including one firefighter who was struck when a section of a wall collapsed. The injured firefighter is currently receiving treatment at the Tema General Hospital.
Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control and extinguished the fire. However, personnel remain at the scene carrying out salvage and overhaul operations to prevent any possible re-ignition and to secure the affected premises.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and no information has been released regarding the extent of property damage or whether there were any civilian casualties.
