The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), in collaboration with Logeist Group Limited and other key partners, has launched a comprehensive land reclamation project aimed at restoring areas degraded by illegal mining activities in the Ashanti Region.
The event took place at Gyaaman Nkwanta and brought together representatives from government agencies, private sector actors, and local communities.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, Chief Executive Officer of the EPA, underscored the critical importance of land reclamation in Ghana’s broader environmental restoration agenda.

She praised Logeist Group Limited for taking the lead in spearheading the initiative and expressed appreciation to partner institutions including the District Assemblies, Minerals Commission, Forestry Commission, and other private sector collaborators for their active support.
“Land reclamation is not just about restoring the physical environment—it is about securing the future of our communities and ensuring sustainable livelihoods,” Prof. Klutse emphasized.
The Acting Ashanti Regional Director of the EPA, Mr. Sydney Kwaku Danso, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting economic development that aligns with strong environmental stewardship.
He noted that EPA will continue to work closely with stakeholders to ensure that land use decisions support both sustainability and economic resilience.
On his part, Mr. Daniel Doe-Tamakloe, Chief Executive Officer of Logeist Group Limited, explained that the initiative aims to rehabilitate degraded lands while introducing sustainable land use practices that create long-term benefits for both the environment and local communities.

The program was attended by several EPA Directors, Area Heads, and representatives from partner institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to reversing the environmental impact of illegal mining and promoting responsible resource management.
