The Global Mercy Ship is expected to sail to Ghana in August 2026 for a 10-month humanitarian healthcare mission aimed at providing free surgeries and strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
The upcoming mission was discussed during a meeting between Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Kulsoume Sinare Baffoe, and the Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Ships Spain, Gerardo Vangioni, at the Ghana Embassy in Madrid.
According to the discussions, the mission will mark Mercy Ships’ fifth visit to Ghana and is expected to deliver approximately 2,500 free specialised surgeries during its stay.

The organisation also plans to donate medical equipment and supplies, while providing professional healthcare training and capacity-building support for Ghana’s surgical care system.
The talks further highlighted Mercy Ships’ ongoing humanitarian work across Africa, including maternal healthcare services, surgical skills training and other medical support initiatives.
Ambassador Kulsoume Sinare Baffoe expressed appreciation for the organisation’s continued contribution to healthcare delivery in Ghana and across the African continent.
Mercy Ships also indicated that it would welcome volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds to support the mission while in Ghana.
