A fuel tanker transporting 54,000 litres of diesel veered off the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Asuboi after suffering a tyre burst, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, prompting a rapid response from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station after a distress call was received at about 1:42 p.m.
The GNFS said a team of eight firefighters led by Station Officer I (STNOI) Antwi Forson, together with Leading Fireman (LFM) Nyade Gilbert Tettey, was dispatched to the scene shortly after the alert.
Upon arrival at about 1:57 p.m., the crew found the DAF fuel tanker, with registration number GM 5938-21, in a nearby bush after it had veered off the road. The vehicle, however, remained on its wheels.
Emergency personnel conducted a search and confirmed that no one was trapped or injured in the accident.
According to the driver, the crash occurred after two middle tyres of the tanker burst, resulting in a loss of steering control.
The Fire Service noted that the tanker sustained partial damage, but no casualties or major fuel spillage were recorded.
